Mount Kezhege has long been revered as the abode of spirits who patronize shamans. According to the legend that gave the name to this place, many centuries ago, a hunter from the Soyan family, hunting a wild goat, accidentally wounded it. In pursuit of the animal, he lost his scythe, a symbol of Tuvan courage, and then died himself.
Modern people compare Kezhege with a stone city. Indeed, the ridge of rocks resembles the rampart of some medieval settlement.
