Kashi Temple Vishwanath
Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the most famous and revered temple of Varanasi, dedicated to Lord Shiva. No words can express the significance of Kashi Vishwanath for Hindus. Thousands of pilgrims flock here daily from all over India, for whom a visit to Kashi Vishwanath is tantamount to an encounter with the Absolute.
It is a daily ritual of respect for Ganga, an expression of gratitude, usually performed at dawn or dusk on the banks of the sacred river.
Fire lamps in the hands of brahmins are the most important ritual element. They burn ghee - purified and melted butter of cow (sacred animal) and karpuura - camphor oil. Fire is a symbol of the Sun and its warmth, without which life is impossible. The lamp becomes a talisman of wealth and prosperity during the Aarti ceremony.
